Planes, Trains and Automobiles

January 25, 2010 | Article Posted By - Claudia Everet, London

Sometimes I think I should have been born a boy for I love trains, planes and automobiles, not I hasten to add in any train spottery type way I have no interest in a locomotive number if indeed they are even called locomotives any more or even if I am sitting aboard a Boeing 747 or an Airbus A380.

I can tell the difference between a Ford Focus and an Astin Martin but the difference between one Japanese car and another probably not. What I am talking about is how planes, trains and automobiles get me from place to place with very little effort on my behalf.

eurostar train.jpgI am off to Paris next week and I am presented with a dilemma, I love the freedom afforded by driving, the speed of the aeroplane even with the nonsense at airports cannot be beaten, and the service on Euro Star if not stuck in the tunnel because some stupid engineer forget to think it sometimes gets cold, is great.  However, Euro Star seems to deliberately discourage late booking. Aeroplane on the other hand seem to reduce prices the closer one gets to travel, odd!.. I know in my heart of hearts that I should have booked the train 8 months ago to get a sensible price, but my life is not just like that, and I know that the other half will suggest that I am mad to think of driving through the night to Paris even in my sporty little number.

So it's off with the joys of the budget airline, screaming kids and beer bellied tattooed men, but hey for 30 quid who can complain, congratulations Sir Stelios you win again.
